Conventional portraits are boring. They're stressful to pose for (all that sitting and wondering if your smile looks weird), and they're boring to shoot. People are always commenting to me that they prefer candid shots, but for some reason chuck it out the window for portraits. A "photojouralistic" portrait, where the photographer goes to the person's home (office, nearby park, etc.) and shoots them in a natural setting, acting/interacting in a natural way, tends to be more flattering and more memorable. Below are a few of my first attempts. I think it works especially well for children, who are least likely to ever be standing still.
